Creative Vacations Travel Advisors don’t just do research in the office for you, they get out and experience it! I was able to spend six days in October traveling with Rocky Mountaineer on the Calgary to Lake Louise tour. There is no way to put my entire experience into a blog post (that you have time to read anyway!), so here are some great highlights, summarized into four S’s.
Scenery – This trip provided some of the most spectacular views in the world! Our tour included not only the amazing rail journey (the train cars are a sight themselves) but a trip to the Calgary Tower, a Summit Helicopter Tour over the Canadian Rockies, a Banff Gondola ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain, a Yoho Park Tour and a visit to Emerald Lake – not to mention all the wildlife spotted along the way.
Service and Storytelling – The service onboard the trains and in the hotels is a great addition to the overall experience of the trip. The hosts go above and beyond to make sure your travels are as amazing as possible. From dietary needs to traveler comforts, they will do whatever they can. As you ride and visit the towns and villages on your tour, the guides and hosts share the historical spots along the route, colorful characters who had a vision for bringing people to the Canadian Rockies, along with other interesting stories and facts about what you are seeing.
Savory and Sweet – Every destination has a signature dish, and this trip was no different. While traveling on the rail you enjoy three course meals with fresh, local ingredients including Alberta been, wild Pacific salmon and a selection of Okanagan wines (but that isn’t the end of the options, and if you let them know ahead of time they try to meet any dietary needs and special requests you may have.) However, on top of the delicious food served on board the train, you have a chance to dine like the locals when you stop and find some of the hidden gems along the way.
Socialization – Your journey will allow you to become friends with your fellow travelers from near and far, as well as meeting new faces in your stops. Solo travelers never feel alone, and some make lifelong friends as they make lifelong memories.
From their website – “One of the greatest advantages (to traveling with Rocky Mountaineer) is the ability to travel through areas simply not accessible by foot, car or motorcoach. The routes we travel on are described as engineering marvels and as we follow rushing rivers, pass beside towering waterfalls and ride through spectacular river canyons, you will understand why. To truly appreciate the nature and scenery in this part of the world, the Rocky Mountaineer offers the very best vantage point.”
Rocky Mountaineer will not meet your expectations, they will exceed them! It truly is a trip of a lifetime.
